Well, im a horror film fan myself, a hardocre one.
The great thing about horror film is that is changes absolutely depending the time period, explaining the actual fears or taboos of the society (from the monster to alien abduction , passing to the possesed ppl and ending with the primal fear wich is the man mind itself), sadly, that is only considerable from the late 90' and before. Actually the horror film industry is death, the only thing that you can actually see is cheap movies only made for teeneangers to scare a lil up or something like that, or old ideas just plagiried up (im looking at you SAW).
Horror films have bringed up lot of classics and cult movies, i mean, "heeeres come jhonny!", if you have seen movies like "evil dead", "Cannibal Holocaust", or even "braindead" when they where just released (or at least not 30 years latter) im sure that you where scared as hell.
In the other hand, go and see "Frankenstein", "the invisibleman", "white zombie" or "phanter womans" trying to get scared, you will turn the movie off in like 15 minutes of film due to boredom.
Actually, horror films are widely ejoyed by Geeks or retro fans like me,who love to find some old and bizarre movie to watch out just for fun, or just ppl who love to watch (or remeber) a good horror film . In the other hand, maybe there are some new movies wich can scare new public (with good reason).
In 2010, the point of getting scared by horror film is almos inexistent , but they will be fun as hell dx.
